Diwali at Pallavan Pre School

Myra started pre-school a few months back and took almost two months to now finally get to a point where she cries to go to school, instead of wanting not to. For weeks I would sit, with my heavy pregnant belly, in her class and she would cling to and walk away only till the corner of my kurta dragged! As if attached to me with an invisible umbilical cord…

I would sit patiently and wonder and wait… There were a few others who cried and howled and eventually they also got ok. Except Myra. She is special. I had told myself, that it’s ok if she never adjusts, what’s the worst!? Twice I cried. And eventually I cut that cord, I had to, so I stopped going. Sent her with my dad and hoped for the best. Myra would come home and tell us how she cried in school and she would enact the whole thing and would laugh about crying at school!! Which actually made me realise that it’s not as bad I think.. She was well aware of her surroundings and it was a matter of time. And i was right.

Myra goes to Pallavan Pre school in Dlf phase 1, Gurgaon. I am going to take out time and write more in detail about the school and what we think of it and why we chose it over the Anagram branch or the very talked about Anand preschool. More on that later.
The principal Bhavana, at Pallavan, was the main reason we had chose this school in the first place. Both V and I instantly just liked her! And I guess we were right because she showed immense patience and enthusiasm with Myra. Making sure she personally takes out time for Myra and walks with her and talks to her till she adjusted. She’s a gifted person when it comes to being able to bond with kids. :) They call the teachers at Pallavan ‘Mausis’ (one of the things that I don’t like about the school!) And Myra loves her Seema and Neeti Mausis now and talks so much about them!! :)

Before they closed for Diwali vacation the school had a lil celebration – they decorated tulsi plants with glitter and gold and distributed sweets, made rangolis with flowers and paint and everyone was asked to come in Indian clothes if they could – Myra, while I was looking for her clothes, found an older set of pavadai, which was quite short and insisted that she will wear only that. So, here, my lil baby in an Indian outfit a lil too short for her!! ūüėÄ

Diwali in India

It’s lil Avika’s first Diwali and also the first for Myra that she will remember. Apart from the usual hogging on the great food and sweets, we did the usual laxmi pooja, where Myra contributed and sang ‘om jai jagdish‘ along with us and it was the cutest ever, after which she gave us all her blessings. She does this thing where she will put her hand on your head! :)
Later, we went down in the building and saw the fireworks etc. It was all quite nice, except I was both disappointed and scared of all the noise and the big stuff people were bursting. As for us – I lit one single ‘phuljhadi‘. Myra was propped on a stool and she thoroughly enjoyed watching all the craziness. :) She also wished everyone a ‘Happy Dila-wi’!!! :)

It’s really really cool stuff. I am not usually a big bling loving person, but this collection has my fancy for sure. It’s fun, modern and very versatile. I wore it on diwali day with a very Indian outfit and got tons of compliments!! :) ¬†And anything that gets you lots of compliments ¬†is always a must-get-must-keep!! :)

The launch event for Swarovski Create Your Style @ Jabong was held at The Setz, at The Emporio mall. Amongst the jewellery on display, they also had a diy jewellery bar – where you could make your own stuff! Food and drinks were great and I thoroughly enjoyed my evening out!! I did take lil Avika with me and she happily slept through the entire evening, making sure mommy gets to let her hair down. Thank you baby. Oh, just realised this makes it Avika’s first event attended!!! :)

Naming ceremony

Indian naming ceremonies can be big and elaborate with hawans and poojas… Since we are in India this time, I was tempted to have a hawan at home too. Not that I’m into these things much, but it seemed like a nice thing to do.. Till I spoke to the¬†priest that is! I had planned to tell him to keep it real short and sweet. For this happy occasion and what not – ¬†suggested 3 days of ceremony, if not then at least a whole day of several rituals. That was pretty much the end of that idea.

So, like last time – we laid out a little setup in the hall. With all the family gathered, we sang a few bhajans, ate sweets and enjoyed watching Myra and her lovely, crazy antics. She got ready to go to school basically and ran around the house carrying her bag. And when we sang bhajans, she curiously closed her eyes and swayed to the music, she’s such a doll!! ¬†:)

And softly, Vivek whispered her name to her.

We name you Avika – little one. Beautiful like a rose and strong like earth. You are the rays from the sun. You are our rays from the sun. :)
